Illustration system

Before I joined, the online experience was heavily text-based, which made the flow feel overwhelming and monotonous. This created a boring experience for users completing tasks like filing a claim, updating their information, or requesting a new insurance quote. Also, the lack of visual elements also limited opportunities to promote or highlight products effectively.

From the scratch, I’ve research of the logic, apply different styles of the illustration, and by sharing with teams and applied all the feedback. I created an set of illustration that being used a cross of our product line such as membership flow, insurance self service flow, payment flow, and also the new design for mobile app flow.

Solution

Developed an illustration library that allowed the design team to quickly incorporate contextually relevant visuals across screens. Based on team or project requirement, I created a new illustration that meets with the context. Also, most of our flows that collecting the information from users, I put top priority for the text first and illustration as secondary that supports the screens or giving the break point. Therefore, the style is very direct, simple, and informational.

Conclusion

Through building an illustration system, I transformed a text-heavy experience into a more engaging and approachable flow. The illustration library not only improved usability but also strengthened brand identity and created opportunities for marketing, while enabling other teams to easily reuse the assets. Also, through out this illustration system, we provide more user friendly experience to user that could be heavy and overwhelming flow. This project demonstrates how visual design can deliver both user delight and business value.
